Blake Propst

Photo by John Miklasz / Dharmic Light Photography

Born: May 5
Instrument: Bass, Double Bass, Contrabass, Upright Bass, Bass Fiddle, Doghouse Bass
Career Goals: Help people live their best lives through music and recreation
Interesting Fact: “Interesting Fact” anagrams to Fatter Insect Gin which is my favorite kind of gin.

Blake was born and raised in the great state of Michigan. He started playing flute at age 11 and quickly switched to electric bass. He played in punk and ska bands through college when he started studying jazz and classical upright bass. Post music school, Blake moved to Syracuse, NY where he earned a Master of Science degree in recreation management and became a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. During this time, Blake continued to play punk rock, bluegrass, folk, country, salsa, jazz, and community theater gigs throughout central New York.

When not playing music, Blake works as a recreation therapist and mentor for young adults and adults with developmental disabilities. He is also an avid outdoor recreation enthusiast and devoted father. He is currently pursuing licensure in creative arts therapy.

Blake joined The Town Pants in this summer of 2019 after responding to a random social media post inquiring about available bass players and is stoked for what the future may bring.
